A few weeks ago, we had an onslaught of rain that lasted for days. Being cooped up with little ones called for a few creative activities. We stayed in our pj’s all day, played games, sang songs, read books, and then tried an old science activity I had put together for our son a few years back.
First, I filled two pie plates, one for each child, with baking soda. I then poured vinegar into four small plastic cups. I had the kids watch as I put a few drops of food coloring in each of the cups then handed them eye droppers and syringes.
The kids sat down with their droppers in hand and had a blast dripping the colored vinegar onto the baking soda. The soda fizzed each time and looked like a mini volcano. We talked a little about color mixing, but mostly, I just let them play and get creative.
It was a fun activity that engaged them for quite some time. The best part? Pouring it all down the sink, knowing I was getting a little cleaning done at the same time. 😉
What’s your favorite activity for rainy day fun?
