Homeopathy has become our “go-to” medicine for almost everything. From sore throats to backaches, we’ve managed to take care of them all with these miraculous little pellets. If you’ve never heard about homeopathy, click here for a brief overview or here for our first experiences with healing.
I’ve done my absolute best to share this wonderful medicine with others, but I have found time and time again that most veer away from it, some out of skepticism and others out of fear. The truth is, I was fearful of homeopathy, too. I had listened to a webinar and had excitedly taken notes, but when it was time to put them to use, I searched the web instead.
The “Problem” with Homeopathy
What I found was article after article about how dangerous these substances were. For example, I read in WebMD that Belladonna, which is used homeopathically to treat fevers, migraines, and strep throat, was “poisonous,” “widely regarded as unsafe,” and “has chemicals that can block functions of the body’s nervous system. Some of the bodily functions regulated by the nervous system include salivation, sweating, pupil size, urination, digestive functions, and others.” Yikes!
What I didn’t understand at the time was how homeopathy actually worked with the scientific law of “like cures like.” What can be poisonous and toxic (like Belladonna) can actually be curative to someone with the same symptoms when diluted and succussed as a homeopathic medicine. Unfortunately, many of these sites do not make this distinction in order to cause alarm and share their biased perspective.
I came to learn that there is much misinformation put out by the pharmaceutical industry to suppress homeopathy, much like all other alternative medicines. People have a right to the truth, and it is upsetting that suppression and bashing is done through the media, “respectable” medical sites, and others, such as Wikipedia, in order to instill fear in anyone considering the use of it.
Now, why on earth would they want to do that? Because it works, and it costs next to nothing.
The Truth About Homeopathy
As an example, during the 1918 flu pandemic in the United States, homeopathic hospitals that treated victims had a mortality rate of less than 1% where as the conventional hospitals were at 30-60%! Homeopathy does not suppress symptoms; it uproots illness altogether. Doctors and healthcare practitioners around the world successfully use homeopathy to treat their patients, including some of the most elite and privileged: “the British Royal Family, the Beatles, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, John D. Rockefeller, several popes, many American presidents, including Bill Clinton,” and the list goes on.
What you may not know is that homeopathy is approved by the FDA. When used appropriately, it is safe for pregnant women and infants and the elderly and does not have any side effects. Still not convinced? Here are 16 more reasons to choose homeopathy. It is an amazing medicine, and I truly don’t know what I would do without it.
My “On-the-Go” Remedies
We have over 100 remedies in our personal family kit and quite a few others that I make sure to carry in my purse. Here are the remedies I take on-the-go and some of their most common uses.
Arnica Montana 30: This is the go-to remedy for injuries. Whether it’s a bump on the head, a blow to the lip, a fall, or a smashed finger, this is the remedy you’ll want to have on hand. Give as needed until the pain subsides. (I also carry Arnica Montana 200 for any extreme situations.)
Aconite 30: This is the remedy for shock. Should there ever be an injury that is a complete shock to the body, such as in a car accident, this remedy will help with restoration and healing. I also take this remedy prior to dental visits to help with “shock” and nerves.
Ledum 30: This remedy is for any type of puncture wound or bite that is piercing. This can be from needles, animal teeth, bee stings, spider bites, mosquito bites, etc. Take immediately and treat with a seasoned homeopath if severe. For tick bites, visit this post.
Arsenicum Album 30: This is the stomach remedy. It is used for food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. When I had the stomach flu, it immediately stopped the vomiting within minutes.
Nux Vomica 30: This is the remedy for over-indulgence, which may include too many rich or fatty foods or alcohol consumption. It is often termed as the “hangover” remedy. Nux Vomica addresses the upset stomach and overall sick feeling that usually follows any of these incidences. Take at onset and as needed for relief.
How to Take Homeopathy
When it comes to dosing, match the frequency with the intensity of the symptom. If for example, you have a large bump on the head, treat with Arnica Montana, If you see a “shift” toward improvement, then stop dosing. If you see a return or worsening of the symptom, dose again. You should see a “shift” within the first four doses, and improvement should continue from there. If there is no improvement, you probably need a different remedy.
Two more great resources are Homeopathic Remedies: A Quick and Easy Guide to Common Disorders and Their Homeopathic Treatments. and Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines. It is well worth the time and effort to educate yourself on this medicine. When illness is uprooted rather than suppressed, the body becomes stronger and healthier overall and is less likely to fall ill the next time around.
