This past year was filled with adventures and trials for our family. On one hand, we switched homeschool curricula and have had quite the ride trying to balance homeschooling with two children and a toddler. On the other, we faced new struggles with our son’s vaccine injury and embarked on new protocols and new understandings of his condition.
I have flip-flopped numerous times, wondering if I should establish a niche and focus more specifically on similar topics like all the experts suggest. I’ve thought about just focusing on homeschooling and sharing all of the reading and writing strategies and curricula I wrote as an educational consultant. But then, somewhere in the midst of that daydream, I’d meet another sick child, another baby suffering from the culmination of vaccine and environmental toxins. And just like that, I’d be back at the computer sharing my research on vaccines, GMO’s, antibiotics, etc. I can’t help but say something, and I care too much to be silent.
And then, there are the sweet little revelations on motherhood that pop up along the way, the heartfelt moments that call for me to capture them in the best way I know how . . . with photography and words. And finally, and most importantly, there’s my journey in my Christian walk, the beautiful truths that have made my life so rich and meaningful that I just can’t keep them all to myself.
I’ve thought about starting different blogs, each with a different focus, but the reality is, I barely have enough time for this blog. And this one blog holds all of those precious pieces that are a part of my upstream life. Each and every part holds a place near and dear to my heart. It’s what drives my thoughts. It’s what motivates me. It’s what pours out of me in words.
I don’t know how often I’ll get to write this year. There may be weeks of writing and weeks of drought. I don’t have a blog growth plan or a minimum number of monthly posts to write. I have a family and a home that needs me quite a bit during this season, and so, I’ll pop in when I can from time to time. Originally, I had considered allowing the blog to expire altogether, but writing this post on Facebook made me realize that I wasn’t quite ready to do that just yet. . . and seeing your favorites for the year also was encouraging.
As I took that step back to prepare for this post, I saw a yearly overview of all that you read here in 2016 and was surprised to find such a mixture of topics throughout the page views. It then made me realize that I am right where I need to be–at least for now. All of my posts may not be for everyone, but they’ll be sitting right here in this little corner of the web for anyone to share and see. I’ll be waiting right here for whenever you want to join me for a stretch (or two!) of the journey.
And this right here is a great place to get started. Here are your top ten favorite posts for 2016.
